The Return to the Hen Den

Yesterday I stopped by to see one of my clients and the pups… and by that, I mean I stopped by the place where Kung Pow lives. πŸ˜‚

I honestly think he knew I was there before he even saw me because all of a sudden I heard the loudest COCK-A-DOODLE-DOO! It wasn’t a normal rooster crow. It sounded more like, “Everybody remain calm… she’s back!”

Nancy asked if I wanted to walk down to see the chickens. I paused for a second.

“Sure… I’d love to go see my arch-nemesis.”

We walked down to the coop, and I was so happy to see the girls. They’re always so sweet. Then I looked over… and there stood Kung Pow.

We made eye contact.

I decided to be the bigger person. I put our differences aside, smiled, and said, “Hi, Kung Pow.”

He immediately answered with another COCK-A-DOODLE-DOO!

Well… okay then.

I honestly don’t know why this rooster hates me so much. πŸ˜‚

One thing I did notice, though, was how protective he was of his girls. Every time one of them got close to the gate, he’d come over and kind of shove her back. It looked so dramatic and a little harsh, but I don’t think he was hurting them. It was more like, “Excuse me, ladies… absolutely not. Step away from the gate.” Maybe it was because the dogs were on the other side. Who knows? He’s very serious about his job as head of security.

I have to give him credit… he takes protecting his little harem very seriously.

Of course, I couldn’t leave without causing just a tiny bit of trouble.

I told him I had the best chicken sandwich the other day. It could’ve been one of his relatives.

He wasn’t amused.

Then I told him the girls could probably overthrow his reign if they all worked together. But let’s be honest… they’re way too dependent on him. There’s definitely no coup happening in that coop anytime soon.

So, for now, the truce remains.

But I’m convinced he’s secretly planning my downfall every time he sees me. One of these days I’m going to walk into that yard and hear him yell, “Get her, girls!” πŸ“πŸ˜‚
